Following Hurricane Katrina, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers initiated construction of the Seabrook Gates Complex to help protect New Orleans from future storm surge along the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal. Hillsdale Fabricators fabricated the massive steel gate components that form the center of the flood protection system.

The complex includes a 95-foot-wide sector gate made up of two horizontal swing steel leaves, each weighing 220 tons, along with vertical lift gates on either side weighing 138 tons each. Hillsdale Fabricators fabricated the gates in St. Louis and shipped them by barge to New Orleans via the Mississippi River.
