Hillsdale Fabricators supplied, fabricated, and erected structural steel for a 193-foot-long pedestrian bridge connecting Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital to an adjacent parking structure in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. Extensive pre-project planning and logistics were critical, as the bridge was erected over a major downtown thoroughfare.
The architecturally complex bridge transitions from a rectangular form at the parking structure to a tall spire shape at the hospital, creating a curved visual effect. To support fabrication accuracy and erection sequencing, Hillsdale Fabricators utilized 3D modeling and shop-assembled the structure into seven frames for transport and installation, coordinating placement to minimize interference during assembly.
